Default New Bike for My Wife

My wife is training to do the Golden Nugget Triathlon and needs a bike. The bike will need multiple uses including the triathlon, pulling a trailer with our 2 year old, and possibly some light trail use. Most of the riding will be done on pavement, and maybe some gravel. I was wanting to get her something with disc brakes and good front suspension, but am not sure if that is necessary for the intended uses. I would like to spend around $500, but less would be nice. Any suggestions for both the bike and the kids trailer. Thanks

Watch chainlove.com they have Tri bike on there all the time for big discounts. If your feeling rich the Salsa Fargo is one fine looking bike but its not even close to $500.
I'm going to ctrl-alt-delete you so hard your mama's computer is going to reboot.

I ended up getting her a Kona Dr. Dew bike from backcountry bikes. It was a 2010 model and I got it for 30% off. It is perfect for her. $1000 bike for $650 was a nice surprise for her.
