    Default info for '2011' trip

Planning on bringing a friend up this year, renting a car, and fishing the road systems for a week or so. Need to start putting a game plan together and get things rolling. So my question is this....... what is a good book/guide to get me pointed in the right direction? Love doing the research myself, means a lot more that way I think.

    Thanks in advance,
    Shannon

There is alot of do it yourself streams along the Parks highway.
But, there is talk of river and stream closures this year so check the Emergency Orders.

I second that. Both available from the forum bookstore.

ADF&G also has a bunch of good publications available online. I suggest you look through them as well. Lots of good info. And be sure to spend time browsing back through the forum - go back to the summer months and you'll get a good idea what's going on where.

I believe he's talking about the low numbers of Cook Inlet king salmon that past few years, especially up along the Parks Highway - Susitna drainage king salmon seasons have been ended early the past couple years due to small runs. there's been some talk of closing the season altogether until numbers rebound.

Kenai Peninsula kings have been faring a little better, but numbers are still down. so if you're thinking of primarily targeting kings just keep an eye on water waters are open. of course, other salmon seasons (sockeye, silvers) could potentially be closed due to small runs, but I wouldn't worry too much about that.

    Thanks for the explanation.

We will be camping and fishing as we go, so more of a fishing/ exploring type trip. My buddy has only seen SE Alaska on a cruise and the farthest north I ever made it was the Denali hwy. So not really worried about the kings so much, but....... sure wouldn't pass up the opportunity.

    Thanks again!
