What is the best trail book to buy to find trails in the Chugach's ?
Got picked for sheep and I'm looking for back up places to go and scout. Also my friend and his young boy are wanting to go with me. And it will be the boys first time going on any sheep hunt .So I'm looking for a good trail that he might be able to handle. I have been sheep hunting and the places I have been up ,I think he would not be able to handle . I got an ewe permit so I'm hopeing I can find some ewes low otherwise he might have to stay at camp and watch via spotting scope.Plan on doing alot of scouting this spring just trying to get my ducks in a row
Roger - Here are some books that I have that are pretty good. Some aren't specific to the Chugach, but it's covered pretty thoroughly in all of them.
50 Hikes in Alaska's Chugach State Park
55 Ways to the Wilderness in SouthCentral Alaska
A Walk-About Guide to Alaska: Volume 2 - The Chugach Mountains
These are the best as far as I'm concerned. The last one is out of print, but I think you can get it from the website I linked you to, and I've also seen it at Barnes & Noble. The other two are available right here through AOD's store.
Thanks thats what I was looking for
Don't forget your park map!
This one is my favorite, available at REI: http://www.rei.com/online/store/Prod...cat=REI_SEARCH
It shows most of the trails in the park.
I like 55 ways to wilderness, and need to figure out what happened to my copy.
Here's an excellent website http://www.akhs.atfreeweb.com/
