    Default Rifle shooting matches

So i was wondering if anyone here had any information on High Power Shooting matches.
I am interested or curious if there are "hunting rifle" type matches or long range shooting competitions were you can take say a fine tuned scope hunting rifle and compete.

I read something about the 1000 yard matches at camp perry allowing scopes but don't know much more and I know thats probably taking too big of step to start.

The NRA sanctions high-power sporting rifle matches that some clubs will run concurrently with a standard across the course high-power match. There are also F-Class matches that are fired at distances of 600-1000 yards and allow the use of bipods, front rests, etc.

The match you are referring to at Perry is the Wimbledon Cup. It is 20 shots for record, slow fire prone at 1000 yards using any rifle with any sights. That is not a good environment to take your first shots at 1000 yards, nor will you accomplish the goals of tuning your rifle and learning your own capabilities there.

I would seek out a club that offers monthly F-class matches or tactical scoped rifle matches and start there. Shooting Sports USA online will give you a list of NRA sanctioned matches.

    Good luck.

Speaking of this, are there any Garand Matches or DCM across the course matches in the Anchorage/Mat-Su area?

At the 3 gun matches in the summer there are also some precision rifle matches. Some people shoot their bolt rifles. They are all based on time though (not par) and also not out to 1000 yds. Still lots of fun.

So technically, one could show up to Camp Parry at the wimbleton match with a sporter and a scope and have a go at it...
