Default 2011 Alaskan Hunting Photo Gallery

    2011 Alaskan Hunting Photo Gallery

    Same guidelines as usual:

Photos and short hunt descriptions only. - Please, if you want to congratulate a hunter or ask questions, do so in a separate thread or via the PM system.

Alaskan hunts only - Please feel free to share your photos from other states/countries in the Out and About forum.

    2011 hunts only

This is one of my favorite features of the site, as I love seeing the collection build throughout the year and the transition from one set of species to another. Our late winter moose, bison and musk ox...leading to the spring bear...and then into sheep and caribou...and back to moose, goat, bears, and more. Let's get this new collection started!

Default 2011 Denali Highway caribou and rabbit by Bob.

7 year old Bob has started off his 2011 hunting season with a bang. 2 porcupines, 3 rabbits, a caribou and an otter. He should be hunting Kodiak brownies with a knife by spring.....

Somehow, with all the moose that I've worked on over the years this turns out to be the first one I've harvested. Been buying beef at the store for a few months now after failing to connect in the fall, so I'm thankful to have a freezer full again.

I figured I may as well get the ball rolling on the 2011 pic thread. I've seen a lot of PWS bears around the boards and thought I better post a few of my own. We encountered more hunters this year than previous years accumulated, we even had to let some folks know they had just killed a bear on one of our registered bait stations. Despite the traffic and the set backs we had another great year for black bears and had chances at good brownies and ended up connecting on a small brown near the end of the hunt.

My son and I planned out our spring hunt this year almost all winter. This would be the first hunt for my 12 year old, and the first black bear hunt for our family. We spent 6 days out in the PWS and saw everything from deer to humpback whales in pretty shallow bays. We spotted and stalked 7 blackies and the 7th one stuck around long enough for my son to get a sniper like shot off. The bear was only able to run about 15 feet before he fell back onto the beach. We were both excited and now have memories that will last a lifetime. Nothing better than spending a week with my son in PWS and bringing home a family trophy. This is an amazing place we live in.

The wife's first big game animal with her bow. Skull green scored 19 3/16". Not a bad start.

This was a nice boar taken out of Seward. It actually ran back into its den to die.
