Default Snowmobiler Avalanche Hazard Evaluation and Rescue Course

What? Snowmobilers Avalanche Hazard Evaluation & Rescue Course
    Where? Girdwood & Turnagain
When? January 22-23, 2011, Saturday and Sunday, 2 day course
Why? Snowmachiners have unique avalanche hazard evaluation and rescue problems. Assessing the terrain and snowpack requires different observational skills than when afoot. If there is an avalanche, the escape and rescue strategies are different as well.

I think i'll be heading down there myself to learn some good stuff, just wanted to let other people know of the upcoming opportunity to get some valuable education, pass the info on to your fellow backcountry riders as well. Everybody have a safe and happy new year...

Thanks for the head's up. I missed last years' course due to a back injury but definitely need a refresher course.
"If snowmachiners would adopt the habits of riding one at a time and not parking at the base of avalanche prone slopes, the number of fatalities would likely be whittled by at least a third, if not by half." ~ Jill Fredston, in the book Snowstruck, In The Grip Of Avalanches.
