Default Lets spot and stalk some bears... Whats in the pack? gear list time!

K i have been asked what gear is essential for bear hunting..

What are we carrying in our pack for gear, knife? tarp? meat & hide prep?

lets start off with day trips as a lot of spring bears are spot and stalked from camp or off the highway,

and then we will get into trip planning.

are there any different items needed for spring or fall bears? extra considerations?

Late Spring spot & stalk...I'm assuming day trip relatively close to road or camp:
    binos
    GPS/compass
    SPOT
    rain gear
    head lamp (never know)
    2 knives
    game bags
    5x8 tarp
    lighter

I always keep some Worthers Originals and a half gallon of water
2 knifes (and my standard pocket knife)
    sharpener
    6 game bags
    small canvas
    lighter and storm proof matches
    comapss
wind up flash light and a head lamp (I got the wind up one after we butchered dustys moose in the dark, and by the end we only had one half dead flash light, and a bear was circling us...that was freaky...
    survival and fishing kit.
if its raining I take a light poncho

I missed this thread in January but I remember being at least one of the folks who was asking. Black bears are out all the time now, even up here right?

This is a bear baiting forum. Not spot and stalking. I love both but this is not a forum for the spot and stalk side of bear hunting.

Are you going to provide a report on how your pack performed?

Love the pack, 3lbs and it rolls up and stores so easy. Got some blood in it and just wiped it off with a paper towel when we got back to camp. I have yet to get a Kifaru product that was not well made and thought out. Patrick, the owner of Kifaru is an outdoors man and he uses what he sells. With the different accessories that are available the pack can be used for several different types hunts.

    Default Don't forget the TP

How about some 'toilet paper' ...

I bought a 'stash' of candy canes during Christmas. So i always take a hand full of those mini-candy canes with me! What can I say ... I'm a 'jolly happy soul'!

THATS what I forgot! I always keep some TP after I had to dig for some moss in 4 inches of snow this spring....I had real bad stomach problems lately, and I was going to some fancy thing and I had my nice shirt on, under my coat, and you see where this is goin.

ever sence then I carry some TP in a waterproof bag.
