    Default New Years Day 'Success'

I took my favorite fishing partner out on New Years Day. He is only 5 years old but he's learning quickly. It's always a challenge to teach patience. But I think the young man (my son) is learning just fine. Thought I'd share a photo of his first fish of the year. Just being with him on the water is 'success' in my mind. I just hope he continues to have a desire for the outdoors as he gets older. (We fish off the Sterling highway just outside of Soldotna).

Outstanding! Looks like great weather too Last week it was -15 and we stayed in the hut, this weeks it's 45 and 3 inches of water on the local lakes. What a fun thing to do with the young ones. Nice catch too! This was my sons first trip out last year. Realed it up on his own and everything (after it was hooked). Keep up the good work. I remember like it was yesterday and my dad was out on the ice with me. Goes by too fast Enjoy and thanks for sharing.Attachment 43928

It's really neat to build good memories with your kids. I'm hoping to get back out there with my daughter next weekend. She's 3-1/2 ... but she's tough and she's been out with me a couple of times already. Thanks for the positive word!

THIS is what it's all about! Father and son making memories in the good ol' outdoors! I'd say you'll have no problem getting this young man back outside as he gets older, he'll actually probably appreciate these types of experiences MORE as he ages.

    Nice fish too Lil Dude!!!!!

Always impressed to see a Father take his son (or daughter) out to experience stuff like this. Beats the hell out of video games, and just teaches them much more!!! Your son doesn't maybe know it now, but he will treasure these moments the rest of his life (as you are now!).
