Default Bear Guides Question: Would you feel comfortable using....

Would you feel comfortable using a rifle that uses a 400 grain woodleigh weldcore PP at 2150 fps for coastal brown bears? How about as a client backup rifle? For the last couple of months I have been beating around a project rifle. Thanks for your insights......

I assume you are talking about using them in a 416 or 458 caliber rifle.
    The answer is yes.

    Yes.
Bullet placement and the reliability of the firearm type are super important.
You could be using a 600 Nitro Express, but it would not save you or your client with poor -or- slow, shot placement.
On the other hand, a quick accurate shot from a 220 grain 30-06 will do the trick...

Bears move at over 50 feet per second once they get up to speed. So it is imperative to possess a smooth fast-actioned firearm to does not tend to jam up with blowing beach or gravel bar sand... Nor one that is easy to jam up with a short stroke of the action.
