    Smile Headed Out

Headed out to Lake Louise in the morning. Staying at the lodge Monday and Tuesday nights. I'm equipped with a new Eskimo Quickfish 6 pop up, Buddy heater, Otter tow behind sled, 3 Rivers pole, plenty of lures, and an older model 10 inch ice auger (bought second hand last season). Thank you for the early Christmas gifts Santa (wife). Not sure how far I'll venture out on the ice. Depends on how my two border collies handle things. Where I go - they go. :-)

If anyone has some last minute tips on places, strategies, or anything... I'm all ears.

    You picked a cold one!

    My tips:
If you are on fish, stay. If you are not on fish move! Notice water depth, weeds, is the bottom mud or rocks, flat or sloping. I would believe that if you are walking, both lodges will tell you the same thing.... Army Point. You should see some holes from previous drilling. The islands nearby are not my hangout so I cannot tell you much.

Good luck! Be sure to keep an eye on your dogs, they may not tell you when they get cold.

After seeing the latest weather forecast, I'm postponing. Those dogs wouldn't get too far at 30 below.

Ended up going up on the 26th. Still was horribly cold. Fished a couple hours on the 26th without a bite. On the 27th I pulled in a decent laker. On the 28th my buddy caught a nice burbot. Was tough weather for the dogs, but they held out okay. Had some troubles with an old, tired snow machine in the cold, but were not left stranded on the ice... Just took some time and effort to get things going again.

Big ol' salmon/baitfish fly that imitates a herring, with a chunk of herring on the hook. The fish hit it hard and the fight was on. I was in about 20 feet of water fishing just off of the bottom.
