Wink Trail Report W.P.C. Willow AK. 12/15/10 River update!

So we have been out Mon. & Tues. grooming and putting in some of the last trail markers for the season. And I think we are ready for the holiday weeks to get down to some riding!
14 inches of snow, windblown and drifted in the open areas. Temps are a little chilly with high of 0 and below at night.
Nancy Lake SRA is still CLOSED!!!!
We are seeing a lot of fokes were they are not allowed.

    Now for the rivers!!!
The LSDA has be out marking the main trail on the rivers and will try to get some grooming in by the weekend if the wind and cold allow!
Dave from Luces said he was going to mark and groom to Scary Tree!
And the Deshka River X- over is in great shape!

So it time to hit Southcentral AK and have some Fun.
Respect Private Property. And please have curret tags when rideing these areas!

It is funny how "perspective" changes one's point of view. Years ago I lived north of the Arctic Circle. We wouldn't hardly go out for "fun" unless it got down to zero F or colder...the snow is sooooo much more fun when it is cold. Of course I ran sloughs and rivers, not much powder to be found...but you could have quite a drag race on that cold ice! I remember the first moose I harvested, it was December 3rd, -20F, bright sun (for a couple of hours), and had to strip down to my long johns top when quartering the beast as I was too hot...today I have a coat on if it is +40 ;-)

The biggest issue is that you have to "dress" right for temps below +10F. That said, there is not a lot of difference in clothing/protection between +10 F and -45 F (which is about as cold as I have riden). Dog mushers think we are all pretty soft in comparison to what they do...

Thanks for the update on temperatures and weather conditions...sounds like it is time to dust of the old AC!
"...and then Jack chopped down the beanstock, adding murder and ecological vandalism to the theft, enticement and vandalism charges already mentioned, but he got away with it and lived happily ever after without so much as a guilty twinge about what he had done. Which proves that you can be excused just about anything if you're a hero, because no one asks the inconvenient questions." Terry Pratchett's The Hogfather

    Smile Just another day.

    I know what you mean!
I was out today at what started at 15 below and was dressed for it. By the time I got home it was only 3 below. And for the last couple of hours I wondered why I was feelling a little to warm. The chillest temps I ever ran was 52 below at Lake Creek. Nothing wanted to move.
I don't do that cold any more!!!
