Thread: RV power/appliances consumption...

    Default RV power/appliances consumption...

Okay, think I'm leaning towards the purchase of a used RV (Chevy 24' motorhome). I looked at all the other posts regarding different options for powering the electronics/appliances and am considering a Honda 2000 watt generator; microwaves seem to pull lots of amps on startup; would the Honda have enough juice to fire up a 700 or so watt micro?
The RV I'm considering has (2) 12 volt batteries for the RV (separate from the engine battery) and the guy who's selling it says that there's an isolator or something mounted to the engine firewall that takes care of charging the rv batts while the vehicle is running; do the rv batteries have enough power to fire up a microwave (thru an inverter)?

Any other advice on this subject will be really appreciated as I've never owned any type of rv before and I'll be jumping in with both feet!

Jim, here is a link that might help you out.http://www.donrowe.com/inverters/usage_chart.html

The honda 2000 is a sweet unit. Quiet and very reliable.

Hey Pete, thanks for the link; very helpful! Looks like a small mircrowave will cut it.

I just saw a Honda EU2000 on Craigslist for $750 either in the General or RV section. Save you about $400

    Big Jim,

I've got some good info re: what to look for when purchasing an RV. It's kind of lengthy so I'll send you a PM.

Well, obviously I'm new to this stuff; I'm assuming a Honda 2000 is a modified sine generator?
Is there a a different & affordable type of unit that will perform better?
    Thanks!
