When the weather kicks up even a little, it's a whole lot "further" than the charts indicate. That can be a really tough piece of water. I've been scared witless out there on an 86 foot boat. Come to think of it, it was no picnic on the Tustamena in '76 when we spent 8 hours hiding in the Barrens!

I'd sure pick your weather, your boat, and an experienced skipper. The halibut fishing is fine, but like anywhere, you have to spend some time sorting out the grounds once you get there. I certainly wouldn't consider the trip if I wasn't prepared boat-wise and time-wise to spend a few days waiting out weather or looking for fish. The Barrens aren't a real good hidey hole, and that's about all you have between points A & B.
