This past weekend we had Highs reaching 20 F, Lows were between 5-8 F.
Snow Depth At Landing Parking Lot:
The snow on last Wed/Thurs was very wet and added about 4" on top of the ice that was made from the rain. The base from the earlier storms withered away to about 2" of solid ice on the bottom layer now.
    Trail Conditions:
Only 3 people went out this weekend to check things out. Ken reports he went out to his cabin on the Yentna, but there is no marked trail down the river and there is still a very high awareness level needed due to the ice jumbles and possibility of water. Kroto Slough is completely impassable at this time due to the amount of water. Bill made it to his cabin at the mouth of the Deshka. The preferred route to avoid the Susitna is to use the Middle Trail/Cat Trail near Rolly Creek which spits you out near the mouth of Deshka. Heavy loads and trailers are highly not suggested at this time. This is definitely not the correct time for inexperienced river runners to be out there on the ice. The surface is very hard and rough with little snow cover. The freezing process should get some help this week with the forecasted cold temperatures.
