    Brad,
The Salcha is one of the most popular rivers in the Interior. Lots of private cabins and a lot of boat traffic come moose season.

Runnability depends on type of boat, load, and water level which is tied to rainfall. Assuming you're using a moderately loaded 18-20 ft outboard jet you can get about 40-45 miles up river most years, but then, so can everybody else.

Get some maps, run the base roads and find the trails. There are other ways to access the upper sections of the Salcha besides a boat.
If cave men had been trophy hunters the Wooly Mammoth would be alive today

I floated this river years ago. I started out 65 miles up river and floated for one day, and then had boat company after that. So I would say that 50 to 45 miles would be right. Pack lots of gas.
