I have found most of the coyotes I have trapped in the Valley over the last 16 years to be at their best (fur-wise) in December and January. Earlier, they do not seem to have the nice long black guard-hairs on their backs and later, they tend to start getting "wooly" and can have a lot of mats in their fur. Just my 2 cents worth on the issue!
