    Default Taxidermy Recommendations in Valley?

Can any of you guys recommend a taxidermist in the valley? I have a zebra rawhide that I need to get tanned and felted. I will be in the valley this weekend and would like to drop it off and get this taken care of. Any info you guys can provide from experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.

Trophy Taxidermy on Green Forest Dr near 3 Bears.
Everything in house, owner operated and a great job.
I have many items done by him, top notch work and reasonable prices.
    Tim Vandertoorn is his name.

I second Tim. Just had him tan two bears and they came out great...

Woodland does a great job. Larry did a great job on my sheep and had a bear hide for me.

I dropped a couple things to be tanned at Outlaw Taxidermy in Palmer, the guy seemed to be pretty knowledable and prices were competitive as well. Seen some of his work, looked like he took great care and time completing each mount. Might be worth checking out.

Been very happy with Woodland on a sheep, goat, and a bison. Seen some real nice African game in his shop too.

You definitely want to use someone that has done a zebra before. Getting the face portion of the hide correct is very tricky and is essential to a good looking rug.
I like Dan Foster for Alaskan game but I don't know if he has african game experience. I'd look for someone who has done several zebra's as they are more difficult that you might imagine.

Used Larry at Woodlands several times....got a Stika there now. I am pretty sure he has done a fair bit of African game, double check me though. Heck of a nice guy that puts out some good work. Have used others around the valley as well....ehhh. The only thing I don't take to Woodlands is sheep. He does a good job on them(did my first) but Joe Romero in Anchorage is THE sheep guy IMO........

Woodland and Trophy are both top quality taxidermists, as well as Fosters. Personally, I use Bob Jewett of Top Gun Taxidermy. He is a good friend of mine, I trust him, and he has always done great taxidermy work for me. He is also very reasonable on cost. I also have used Wayne Disarro of W.D. Taxidermy. He did a black bear for me once many years ago. He is a very nice guy. There are a lot of good options in the valley for you.

No offense, but you don't need a good taxidermist to have a skin tanned and felted. Most taxidermist don't do their own tanning anyway, and that means they send it off to professional tanners who are way better at tanning (obviously) than some hackidermist. I would suggest you contact an "average" taxidermist as long as they send out their tanning. What you want done is called arts & crafts, not true taxidermy, and most "good taxidrmists" don't want to be bothered doing a remedial project like yours. Hell, with just an hour of internet searching, you could figure out how to do everything yourself. Good luck.

Someone I know said it best....

"Got to give Tundra Tanning and Taxidermy cudos. Dropped off a cow hide just a shade over 2 years ago to be made into leather and just got it back it is still salted and dried hard as a board. Also dropped off 2 super blanket beaver and 2 RED fox about 16 months ago to be tanned they just came back 2 small beaver and 2 cross fox, without any of my Identifying marks and they shrunk a whole lot and changed colors. This is so cool of a business to be able to do this kind of stuff with the furs that you provide. Would recommend them to anyone who has won the lottery or is into gambling."
