Thread: March fishing opportunities?

    Default March fishing opportunities?

Thinking of coming up in March for the Homer Winter King derby & to hang out some; was curious about any other freshwater fishing available that time of year?
Rainbows on the Kenai? Grayling somewhere?
I realize it's probably not the best time of year for freshwater fishing (probably most lakes & such will still be solid?) but I need to come up to get personal stuff & vehicle organized into a new home base so I figured to make the most of the trip!
Anybody fish much that time of year?

I think itís a great opportunity to enjoy Homer and become familiar with the Kenai Peninsula. The streams and rivers will more than likely be frozen, giving you the option to do some ice fishing on Hidden Lake for Trout, for example. Mid May is a good time for King fishing on the Kasilof River, as well as salt water Halibut/King combos in the salt water areas. Trout season opens mid June.
