Default White tails and Hatcher pass.

I am working down in Palmer for a while and Have heard that Hatcher pass has fair numbers of White Tailed Ptarmigan. I have shot every species of upland game bird found in the state except White Tailed Ptarmigan and think this might be my chance. Can any one confirm regular numbers of White Tails and possibly point me in a very general direction. I have patterned the Willows and Rocks in the interior pretty well but am a little lost when it comes to White Tails and Hatcher Pass. Any help would be great!

I've seen some way back at the head of the Gold mint trail below the glacier. About a 8 mile hike in though. Not sure if it's worth the walk for some ptarmigan. Climb up to the mint hut below the glacier. Can't miss it. Just follow the trail. It will take you right to them.

I agree. I found one last year within a few feet of the gold mint trail, one mile from the parking lot, that was mid January. Do a search for "ptarmigan comic relief" in this forum for the story.

Hunting is allowed at Hatcher Pass off the trail there?

I think you have to be a 1/2 mile from the main roads at the pass

Cool. I am going to head down that trail next week and see what I can find.
