    Default 1st shot distance, again...

    This is my 3rd year of asking you rifle hunters what the distance was from you to the big game animal when you fired your first shot this year. I don't need rifle, scope, or cartridge info, but don't care if you list it. In the last 2 years the posters here have averaged about 170 yards for the first shot. So give your self a pat on the back for "getting close".

    You need to ask this several times per year, as there are different times per year when people are hunting for things. Not just the urban hunter ruled by the location and dated seasons. Ask that again once the ground is frozen and people begin hunting in the snow.

    170 yards? People are far too far away from game when they fire.

    Delta bison 60 yards 2 hours of crawling through a hay field, one shot 338 250 gr.

    one of my longest years. the only tag i have filled is my caribou. at 305 one shot


    oldest daughter caribou 60 yards 2 shots

    my #2 daughters moose.. 35 yards 1 shot


    wifes moose 125 yards 2 shots

    partners moos 95 yards 2 shots

    i assisted on all

    In Montana a group of 5 of us average on antelope was 294yds verfied with laser rangefinder longest 507yds.
