    Default kings from shore help

Planning my first alaska trip and was thinking of trying late may for kings. I'm gonna be shorebound most likely and would really like to fish the kenai river at least one day as its always been a dream of mine. I know very little/nothing of fishing there and i'm not even sure if its possible or productive to fish the shore there? If not, is there any place thats friendly for shore fisherman? I'm not looking for honey holes , just general areas. What rod length/action is needed? line#? lures?
any help at all will help greatly. thx
I'll be camping in the area if there's a campground that has shore access?

Only about two of those locations will you have a chance. I would give you a 2 to 5% chance of hooking up on the Kenai from shore, and 5% chance is being very generous. THe Kasilof would be a better option for late May.

What time frame are you thinking about? If its in May and you are on the Peninsula, the Kasilof is your best bet. By mid June, your options open up considerably within "driving range" of southcentral Alaska.

i was thinking the last week in may but its not set in stone. i found a dvd of roadside king salmon fishing and i'm considering buying it to help me out. i've just been planning this trip for a few days and my mind is shot to hell already trying to figure things out. All i know for sure is that i want to fish the kenai 1 day for kings and a day or two for halibut. My fishing partner is 8 years old so combat fishing is out of the question.
