    Default Palmer hay flats

Has anyone been out to the Palmer hay flats lately? Any reports would be helpful even about ice is it still frozen over or was the mild wether enough to melt that? Thanks

I was out Sunday, Knick side. 1 " of ice, when i anchored boat in mud and was getting out a big goose flew off from 20 ft away, caught us unaware, it was over the bank and out of site until we saw it fly. I guess it was wounded but it didnt slow down. Saw some large flights of ducks late in the day, actually if you go past the normal lake access and hunt the incoming tide along the salt I think you could get some ducks. Bud

I am thinking the weather and winds we have had twice since last weekend would have been enough to melt this..if there was open water it is going to help open it more. I am attempting to run to DL again this weekend or out to Coffee Point....either way I will be there.

Was at DL this Monday, solid 1" of ice. Have not been out there since, but noticed some of the backwaters around Palmer that were iced over have opened back up halfway. I'm betting DL is the same.
Was real slow hunting, decoyed one small group after busting a hole in the ice to set up. Educated them good. Saw a few more right on Rabbit Slough.
Have intel that as of Tuesday 10-19 there is ducks on the Susitna flats in "biblical proportions". So hopefully for those of us who do not have planes to get over there, some will head east this weekend, and not directly south.

As of the evening of 21 Oct most of them birds left from the flats. My buddy had his friend fly over and was disappointed in what they did NOT see. Lets hope they all have not left or more came down or I guess face reality that we are done for the year. We will go out this weekend and see what happens.
