Default Burris Red Dot on Savage 99?

I'm debating using my Savage 99 (308) for moose hunting next year. For some reason, I don't like the idea of mounting a scope on it and it seems like the Red Dot sight might be a good compromise between open sights and a bulky scope. Any experience or thoughts on this sight? The reciever came drilled and tapped for a scope, would that sight mount there? Thanks.....Louis

I've mounted the Burris FastFire2 red dot on my '86 USRAC/Miroku, using Doug Turnbull's skookum mount. I like it. Very quick and accurate. On the rifle, it looks like a somewhat larger receiver sight. With it's 4 minute dot, it should be good on moose out to 200+ yards on your M99.

Thanks. I did see a picture of an 86 with the Burris sight earlier and that's what started me thinking it might be a good option on a lever action....Louis

That's my rifle. I think the sight suits the rifle quite well, without looking clunky or out of place. Fun to shoot.
