Thread: Another moose quiz...

    Default Another moose quiz...

Okay, here is one for the 50" 4 brow tine areas. This bull was shot in an any bull area, so it didn't matter, but what would you guess the width to be, and would you consider this bull to have 3X2, 3X3 or 3X4 brow tines?

I'll post a couple more in a few...

    Bull #1 is 3X2, and 55" I'd say.

    Bull #2 is right around 50, we'll say 49

Bull #3 is legal spike fork.

    #1 3x3 50"-52"
    #2 42"
#3 looks like a fork from the rear, but something tells me he has a third sticker in the front. I see something curving around on the left side. He obviously is Non typical the way the base droops down. Better take a look from the front on that one.

boy that first bull would get someone in a 4 brow area. My first look I thought it was a 4 on that side for sure.

#1 - 3x3, 54" Really easy to mistake that one for four brow tines, the second view helped.

#2 - 47". He might be wide enough, but I'm definitely letting that one walk in a 50" area.

    #3 - Legal fork. Dinner.

#3 needs a better look before shooting. F&G tells you to always try to get a front view of antlers for a reason.

    #1 3x3 55"
    #2 2x2 44-45"--would have to let this walk in a 50" area
#3 looks like there is another point protruding forward from the bottom on this so I'd have to take another look from the front or let it go

i am really surprised at the votes for number one for 3x3... there is a part of a sentence in the regulations that fits this to a tee.."a tine originating in or after this bay is not a brow tine".... if you were going to make an argument for 3x3 then by this same regulation then you would actually be arguing 3x4 since you would have to say that the bay between the 4th and 5th tine to make the 3rd tine a legal brow since it projects from inside the bay between the actual two conjoined brow tines and the 4th point... however, regardless of brow tines, this argument would take place back at the campfire with my hunting buddies while eating this bulls back straps 50+

    Default Tough call

I would say that it would actually be a 3 by 3 because the 3rd point on the moose's left horn actually is connected to the brow palm, even though some of the point is connected to the bay that separates the brow tine from the rest of the palm. But in a 3 brow tine area this wouldn't matter because the moose is bigger than 50 and the right side definitely has 3 tine.

    Moose #1---- 52 to 54

    Moose #2 ---- 46 or 47

Moose #3 ---- fork from the back unless it has a sticker pt. up front.

#2 lucky if it is 45" id say 43 to 44
#3 look slike a fork on one side, but i would not shoot until i confirmed it was indeed a fork,...looks like he was trying to grow a third point where the bulge is on his left side.

    #1 3x3 49 to 51"
    #2 52 to 54"
#3 would want a look from the front or side, I agree with a few others that there may be a third tine on that left antler.
