I took my boy out on the buck opener, we only hunted half of a day because it was raining cats and dogs and my boy is only 9 and I didnt want him to be miserable on his first hunt, but needless to say, we seen 4 does in a couple hours of hunting.

Any places you can get to by boat out of Valdez or Whittier that hold deer? I have a 22' Hewescraft and am thinking of heading out of Valdez or perhaps whittier on the 8-11th Of Oct.

Absolutely. Out of Valdez your closest solid option would be Hinchinbrook Island, whereas out of Whittier the closest decent option is Perry Island. Out of Whittier in particular, the farther you go, the better. Culross might hold a few, Perry holds more, and it generally gets better as you go further yet. Obviously weather is a consideration this time of year, though, so yes...there are some options relatively close in.

Sounds like a pretty rowdy forecast, for sure.

You know as well as I that these extended forecasts are as fickle as Jackie Purcell's. Start planning on Wednesday. The months with "r's" can be ugly out on the Sound.

LOL Hey wasn't it John Tracy that coined the phrase "hire the handicapped they're fun to watch"
Actually the marine weather has been surprisingly accurate this year

Jeff, I've never seen a little thing like an East 35 Kt blow stop you from taking a boat ride. You must be getting old.

But really, the big thing is more worrying about your boat dragging anchor while you're hunting than the run. Takes all the fun out of a good time when you have to worry about your ride home.

I know Rick I'm really turning into a wuss!
Last year I bought a beef cow from Walt in Sedro Wooley. This year air freight shot thru the roof so if I have resort to the barbaric practice of hunting and gathering I'm gonna make darn sure the weathers nice for the endeavor by cracky!

Good luck on your hunt! Martinson and I will be in the Valley on Thurs, then driving south. I'll be deer hunting at home in a couple weeks. Won't have to worry about my truck dragging anchor.
