Thread: Fishing for kids in Kenai Peninsula?

Default Fishing for kids in Kenai Peninsula?

My Dad wants to go somewhere where he can relax with the kids and fish too. So if that means a lakeful of stocked 8" Rainbows he's okay with that. My little bro is 10 and looooves to fish but still needs help tying lures, etc.

He wants to go somewhere on the Kenai Peninsula.
Thank God for people who don't fish!! Not much would get done without them =)

Spirit Lake (sometimes known as Elephant Lake) is a favorite of ours. If you're going for Rainbows, I've only ever caught one there before. But, there's landlocked salmon there that are 15-18" on average. It's a lot of fun. If I were you, I'd hike on the trail to get around onto a better shoreline. I realize this sounds a little vague, but I've not described it to someone who hasn't been there before...maybe someone else will have a better way of describing it.

Spirit Lake is at the end of Strawberry Rd....a little bit of a drive, a few twists and curves, but the drive is pretty. Sometimes, the road can get a little rutty because of rain, but I haven't been out there since late June, so I'm not sure.

Anyway, that's where we go when we wanna put the kiddo's on some fish. We use shrimp when we're out there.

I've found that the best way to catch kids on the Kenai Peninsula is to bait the hook with a lollipop!

When I re-read my post after I made it, I knew someone was going to jump on that, lol.

Thanks for the Lake suggestion. I will be on the Kenai all weekend but he's going to take the kiddos out.
