    Default First Day Out

Another rainy weekend. Hopefully the next couple of days will be better than today. Saw a few birds and many hunters.

Curious about what area you hunted. We had lots of hunters on the hayflats on Wed. but very few since then, and not many birds. Three of us got 7 today, Does not seem to be many local ducks as in past years. Bud

I have noticed the same thing on the hayflats, not many birds around. We were out yesterday, and the only reason we did well was because there were some guys jump shooting around us. I think with all the rain we had over the summer, the birds have a lot of places to sit.

I'm kind of seeing the same thing up here in the interior. Things have tailed off day by day since Wednesday. This morning was extremely slow with only one widgeon brought to hand. I could count the ducks I seen flying on two hands. Just seems like there is a lack of local ducks compared to years past. Even did some driving around and I'm just not seeing the ducks. Might have to make a road trip next weekend.

Blackdawg the numbers did seem to be low. I remember back a few years, the same thing. The one thing the two years have in common. Coyotes, The only two times (years) I'v heard them out there during duck season. May be a high population this year, that will need to be thinned out this winter.

    Default Hunted Cottonwood Creek/Hay Flats

Went back out today and saw only a few birds. It seems that the numbers are way down this year. I did see some geese out in the inlet but nothing close. Maybe later this week some birds will come down from up north. I hope it cools off and they start flying.
