Default Starting Loads for RL 17

I finally bought a pound of RL 17. I want to try it out of my 358 Norma and 338-06 AI. Can I substitute IMR 4350 data to start my loads?

I recently bought a pound of it as well believing it would be a great powder for my .338-06 and 210 Partitions. Somewhere's I read that it is similar to IMR4350 ...dunno. I suspect the only way for you to load is to use the data for IMR4350 and start low on the data and work up until you get your results obviously using the known symptoms for detecting "hot" loads. Bought my first pound of Big Game too for this rifle(s) of mine both .338-06's. Have been using both RL15 and H414 for either 225's and 250 Hornadies with very good results....reloading is cool but always lean towards safe practices when in doubt and/or are certain. Surely, one will post on this thread and give a better shout with knowledge and use with this powder in question. Murphy....where ya be?

That's what I've done when there is no data for the cartridge in question on Alliants web site. Use the lower starting data of IMR-4350 or H-4350 and work up in .5gr increments. I've loaded RL-17 in 243Win, 30-06, 300WM and 375 Ruger with very good results.

Me too. I find it's similar to H4350 in charge weight. I've used it in 300 WSM, 243 Win, 270 Win and 375 Ruger with great results.
