    Default Prudhoe

On our first trip to AK, we rented a car from Artic Outfitters (before our tour/cruise started) & drove up to Coldfoot. From there we drove just past Atigun Pass & turned around because it was getting dark. Spent the night in Coldfoot. My husband said that was his favorite part of our trip.
Anyway, we want to go further up to Deadhorse & Prudhoe when we come back. I heard you can only go as far as Deadhorse and that you must be part of a tour group to go to Prudhoe. Does anyone know if that is true?

    Thanks!!!

Yes that is true. Ain't a whole lot to see once you get about 50 miles south of deadhorse - muskox, fox, geese, maybe a bou or two. Deadhorse is more like a small industrial area than a town.

Thanks. We do understand it's an industrial area, but my husband wants to ck out the oil fields.

He will be able to see two drill site areas that are outside the lease boundaries. You wont be allowed entry, but maybe if there is a drilling rig or something on the pad, you'd be able to see it from the road...

I believe you have to check in and get security clearance 24 hours before the tour or at least the day before the tour.

I was up in Deadhorse this August and the group I was hunting with knew about a tour out of Deadhorse. This is what you may be looking for. If we had better luck hunting and more time, we would have taken the tour.

Let us know how it goes if you get back there.

Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it. Besides the arcticcaribouinn, I found out that Artic Outfitters can also schedule tours on a BP Security Shuttles as well. Hopefully, we'll be able to book that when we come back & I'll let you know how it went. Thanks again.
