    Default So Your walking along....

So your walking along nothing but game trails, just exploring the area, you have no pack, less than a mile from camp, your carrying your rifle suddenly your nostrils are invaded by the smell of rotting carcass,,... the hair on the back of your neck stands up straight, the sounds of everything become clearer and you hear a branch break... you keep walking 5 steps .. then 10 steps and the smell of fresh feces is overwhelming .... your thoughts... (there is no one else with or around your camp.. )

If you cant stand behind the troops in Iraq.. Feel free to stand in front of them.

Thats pretty much how my archery griz hunt when this year, except instead of rotting flesh I smelled rotting fish and then heard mutliple bears fighting for their spot in the creek. Definitely explore further.... that is unless you werent planning on taking a griz!

...carefully back out...decide how you want to deal with a possible/potential bear encounter...

***But most of all be thankful that we live in a place where these situation are still possible.***

Saw a terrible car accident in Anchorage today that involved severe injuries to a few different drivers and other vehicle occupants. It happened right in from of me. Could have been me as easily as them. It could have involved deaths. But I'm still gonna drive...still gonna go hiking and hunting and rafting and fishing.....still gonna keep my eyes open and try to avoid bad driver encounters and bad bear encounters. In my mind, the only bad bear encounter involves actual cantact. Up until the point of contact, it is just another great bear experience.

So I'll bite....what are you really looking for?

    You pray.
Yes, seriously, you pray and pray fervently.

"... and the beasts of the field will be at peace with you." Job 5:23.

I have claimed that verse multitudes of times when I knew I was right in the middle of brown bear city in SE Alaska and SW Alaska. Could smell them and hear them, but not see them through the tall grass or alder. I still claim that verse when I am solo hunting.

And if I do get et up, well... I'm gonna be in the happy hunting ground.
