Not much of a prayin' man, but I was prayin' to the powers that be today, ask them first for some more sunshine & lo & behold, the clouds opened up! & then we (my partner & I) went to pick up his brother, a priest, doing an Orthodox conference, in Pilot, & we took another route home, & I said another prayer that we at least see something.
Well, we get going, pull into the slough of all sloughs that ALWAYS has moose, & there ain't much, lots of sign but no moose, we get outta that slough, & head home & check a coupla meadows, & nothin'! So we head out again, & we round a bend, & on the end of the bend, I see somthin' brown! Nice & brown! I grab my binos, & I see HORNS! I mention to my partner, drivin' the boat, & then tap his brother, & show him, & he gets his gun ready & my partner cuts the engine & the Priest opens up his .270 Win, misses the first shot, hits him the next shot, in the & around the hump & the moose goes down & then puts the last shot on in his ear.
We set up shop to skin him, I pull out my tarp, & the two brothers sit & eat, & I pull out my lil' 2.5" LST folding Gerber & start skinin' away...I'm half way done, & the driver of the boat comes to help me take the rear leg off, & I can't believe how well this lil' knife is doing! I cut off the leg, & we bag it & put it on the tarp, & cut the front leg off, & I've only sharpened my knife just once, & it's STILL SHARP!
This 42" three brow tine is PHAT!
This was & is my only 2nd outtin' this moose season, both day trips & someone's gotten a moose...
We took pics, & I hope they download them so I can share with you!
The amazin' thing is that I can't believe how well a lil' 2.5" blade preformed, I'm sure I could've skinned & quartered the whole animal with it.
Can't wait to get a moose myself!
OBTW, this is the same preist that married my wife & I back in '02...
