Thread: Don't be like this guy - read the regs!

Default Don't be like this guy - read the regs!

Here's a perfect example of why to read the regs.

Tonight a guy drives up just north of the Mat River bridge on the Glenn just south of the Parks and heads out chasing a moose he saw. Pulls the trigger at about 9:30pm. After a quick phone call, the troopers were waiting for him when he walked out to meet with another person who was going to help him out. When asked, he tried to claim he thought the season opened on the 20th. Regs show the 25th, clear as day.

Now, as of 11:30pm, they are out trying to find the moose he shot in the pitch black and facing even more serious charges if he can't locate and salvage it.

Who knows whether it was reall an honest mistake or not, but it just reiterates the fact that you always need to read the regs, then when you are done, read them again.

Sounds about as honest as the guy who flew into a neighboring airstrip, shot not one, but two fullcurl rams same day airborne, cut their heads off and headed back to his plane. Well, the state's plane now....

Certainly stoopid! The state changed from the 20th to the 25th after quite a few years and there wasn't that much fan fare in the switch. While we as part of the AOD community tend to be pretty informed there are lots of people that just know that 20 Aug is moose season, like it has been for years and don't realize that the regs change. I hunted for years and never heard of the BOG until I started getting more involved. I am not prepared to label someone a poacher in this situation, just ignorant. He gets to learn a valuable and expensive lesson on why it is important to read the game regs each year before going afield.

Reported by my inspector who is on the paving project. The guy wanted to park right where we were working. His truck was still there when I got out there myself.

Some of them may have been permit hunters (DM410, Aug 20th opening).

The whole state changed to the 25th? I guess not all AOD members are too informed!

No, it varies all over the place---that's why you have to read the regs.

He could have been hunting with a dm407 antlerless permit which opened on the 20th which means there are some of us on here that should re-read the regs them selves!!!

The Trooper checked for that and he did not have one.

Second hand information from a hunting couple at the same airstrip. They had the troopers drop in on them (plugged their ram which I thought was very nice) and told them about the shenanigans this guy had committed. So yeah, I am serious.
