    Default Black bear hunt

Who else has their plans made out for a black bear hunt this Spring?

We are leaving out of Seward on May 6 (weather permitted), this year we have 2 boats and a group of 10 people. Last year we were diverted to Homer because of the weather in Seward.

I'll be headed to PWS once the weather looks best. Never been out of Homer but wouldn't mind trying it!

Last year I tried to go out of seward and it seemed like the bears didn't come out until the midle of may. is that common. Can you get any bears in april (weather permitting).

    Dman,

Great places out of Homer, we went appx 60-70 miles south and saw roughly 8-10 bears everyday last year.

    Default go further out

out of pws if not to much snow you can go out towards latouche and elrington. missed three myself but two others got thiers in mid april a few years back. just depends on snow and how long it stays cold, last year sucked. but dad got one, late may. seen one in mid june with a nice hide still and was down eating grass still. but have been out mid to late april and the bears were already high up too. just all depends. but the further out you go the better for early bears; generally less snow down low

Thanks! Would like to try it this spring. Whats the water usually like in May on the south side by E Chugach Island?

    DMan,

We did not go any further than Elizabeth Island that trip, as I am sure you remember last year for the most part it was still winter time in early May. All things considered the water was not bad although we did deal with consistent rain and or snow the entire week but nothing too bad, I would certainly go back that way again.
