Default Looking to customize a Ruger 10/22

I was thinking of buying a 10/22 to customize, and ultimately have a lot of fun with on the range. I was wondering with all the different types of 10/22 I see in the store, is there one that works best to customize?

Rambling raven (iirc) has done a few really sweet builds with his daughters. Maybe he will chime in. Be careful, over a grand into these is pretty darn easy...

I've been playing with my new 22 lately and am unsure if much more cash will go to the 10/22s that I have (or maybe the newness has to wear off first).
