None seen around Lake Louise Road. Too early. Saw 3 crossing the lake system on Sunday. No tracks on any of the beaches that we checked either.

Had a fellow at the lodge. He left the lodge at 5am, and was back with a fully dressed out caribou by noon. Not sure where he went, but it wasn't far from us. They are all over up there.

Couldn't pay me enough to drive that highway this weekend. It should be in just terrific shape by Sunday evening...

I made a supply run for DenaliSnow (Mrs denalihunter) last week. Took a walk up the trail (ridge) behind the lodge and within 20 minutes was seeing caribou. Had it been legal to do so I could have had a caribou down and back within an hour.

Lots of 'bou up Valdez Creek valley. Of course it's non-motorized, but you could do it easy with a mtn. bike. We saw our first ones at the top of the hill just past the grave markers.

I'm thinking about 6 to 8 miles. Not too steep anywhere going up the Valdez Road. I'm sure you could get there in 30 minutes.

    Good Luck!

Went in on the Belanger Pass trail on the 9th and didn't see a whole lot of animals. Got up on the 10th and spotted from 6am on and only saw a dozen animals, mostly way high in the hills, compared to several times that back in early July. Heard rumors that they were back in the Tyone and Oshetna. country. Got one in the early afternoon on a beautiful opening day. caribou 2010 004.jpg

Actually more like an hour in and 1 1/2 hours out with a pack. I got this one and took two trips out from 7.5 miles in on my bike. I am now exausted.

Nice job H2ODogg!!!!! I like that camo also, looks like the proper shade of blue to keep the critters from outlining you against the blue skies.

Yes I do! I think I am going to get some Hot Links made from Delta Meats.

I have never found the need to wear camo Caribou hunting on the Denali Hwy. After I shot this one, another the same size ran right to me.
