    Default Russian River closed?

I just read that the Russian is closed due to low red count.
Does this mean it is closed to all fishing or closed to salmon fishing? Has this happened before? If so, has it re-opened later in the year? Wondering if I can fish it when I come there in Sept.

It is closed to fishing for Sockeye fishing only, you can not target sockeye and if you incidentally hook into one fishing this area it can not be retained or removed from the water. All other fishing is allowed just no sockeye specific fishing.

Essentially the emergency order closed the sockeye fishery on the Russian about a week earlier than normal. It pertains to sockeye only, at this point your trip in Sept. isn't affected.

are there enough silvers in that river to target?
Is it feasible to throw spinners at them? Or do they blend in too much with the reds?
    thanks

Soda I don't believe you can use spinners for silvers up there can you? It's a ff only area even after red season? Not sure but I'd check the regs..

after the 20th you can use spinners for silvers but they must have a single hook. Typically the silvers blend with the reds but you can often get them to chase things over their heads
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.
