    Default Duck hunters

I hunt mainly on the west side of cook inlet, I've heard everyone talk about the Palmer hay flats. Straight to the point, I want someone to show me where to go, I am a respectful hunter, I'll buy my escort a box of shells or two. I have an Atv, trailer, meat trailers, and an awsome hunting black lab.....anybody want to show me where to hunt the hay flats? Or anywhere I can Atv into?

I don't think ATV's are allowed until sufficient snow cover which puts it too late in season for ducks. I have seen ATV's running around there, I think access is off Fairview Loop. PM me if still interested. Bud

As Bud says the only legal ATV access is from the north side at the Cotton Wood creek entrance off of Fairview Loop. Go to the Friends of Palmer Hayflats website and they have good directions and maps for accessing that side of the refuge.

You have to keep your ATV on the trail, and are not suppose to run all over the place out there. there are many ponds and shallow pieces of sheet water out there to hunt over. Lots of jump shooters, too. Once at the end of the ATV trail you walk out to where ever there are not other people. Nothing complicated about it at all.

It will be a completely different experience than the west side - half of Wasilly will be hunting next to you at Cotton Wood Creek.

And some of those holes you have to cross can be deep. And with all the rain who knows. But that is the only spot on the flats for wheelers
