Easy hike recommendations
We visited Alaska in June/July and had the time of our lives! Many of the hikes we took were recommendations from this forum. The scenery blew us away! Here's a little report on a few of the hikes we took, and I would recommend these to anyone visiting Alaska for the first time with little hiking experience:
Turnagain Arm / Windy Corner - great views of water
Girdwood - Winner Creek - hemlock forest, rushing water
Hatcher Pass - Gold Mint Trail - song birds, wild geraniums, mountain vistas
Denali - Savage River - followed canyon beyond trail
Denali - Mt Healey -made it to the top for 360 views
Denali - Horseshoe Lake - saw a big moose in the lake!
Fairbanks area - Chena Springs - swimming, hiking around the vacinity
Fairbanks - Creamers Preserve - boreal forest/ birch forest, cranes
Fairbanks area- Angel Rocks - a bit slick in the rain, but great views
Fairbanks area- Granite Tors - nice boardwalk/ salmon berries
Worthington Glacier - hiked about 1/2 way up at midnight!
Valdez - Shoup's Bay Trail - wild iris/ boardwalk/views of bay
I hope this list helps anyone like ourselves looking for some nice day hikes and new to Alaska. I'm already aching to get back to Alaska!
Good compilation of great little treks!
