Default Alaska Game Management Units in Google Earth

I have posted a KMZ of the Alaska Game Management Units at http://geoapt.com/alaska_gmu. This is a vector file. After loading in to Google Earth, clicking on a unit will display its name.

Please note the limitations of this information and read the first few sections of the Metadata.

For those interested, Googe maps/earth use a modified Mercator projection. The GMU data was obtained from the State and transformed into the proper projection for overlay.

Thanks, if you expand the folder all of the units are unnamed. You can click on them and it will show you which unit it is, at which point you can right click, click "rename" and name it after the unit number. That way you can just double click on which GMU you want to see and GE will zoom to it. It would be nice if you could get GE to display the unit names, but I don't think it has that feature.

That is good stuff. I renamed and reordered all the units, and made folders for each unit that has sub-units just to shorten up the list.
    Repped ya!

Yeah the NPS boundaries are preloaded into standard download of google earth. On the left hand side of the screen there is a "Layers" section. Under the "More" option of this section hit the "+" button and more options will appear. One of with is "Parks/Recreation Areas" it draws green lines where these boundaries are. It is pretty useful as well. However, like Jeff King found out the hard way you might want to give those areas little wider berth than where Google Earth shows. I am thinking "Google Earth showed I was outside the park" might not hold up in court too well. But from what I see they seem reasonably accurate. Just another tool to use.

Anyone know where I can get a Google Earth file with the GMU's on it? Looks like the above link no longer contains the file.

    Thanks!

Here is a link that allows you to have ADF&G GMUs on your smart phone so you can use the built in mapping application, it works off your phone's GPS.
