    Default Keku Strait

Planning to pass through Keku Strait around Sept 7th. Have read all that I can about riding the tides, plotted my 50+ waypoints, but was hoping for any advice from someone who had made the passage recently. I have never done it and I think I am more concerned about the kelp beds fowling my prop than staying in the narrow channels. I am planning on taking it nice and slow at 4 kts. I have a 30' inboard with a 3' draft.

    Heading north, or south?

Coming from the south, finding the actual entrance was a bit of a challenge the first time, even with a GPS. But I was going 25+ knots, and was zoomed in a bit too far. Ended up going into No-Name Bay more than I had thought, realized my mistake, and corrected my course. Coming from the north, it's no problem.

The trickiest part I found, was the sharp zig-zag portion just south of Devils Elbow. At 4 knots, you'll have no problems with navigating and maneuvering. It's tight but not really that big a deal.

    Brian,
