Default Unit 22 Musk Ox....Good News and Bad

New regs are out and quotas are set. Tho the quotas were not published in the book. So, on to the news.
    Good news:
All registration hunt permits are now available online EXCEPT the RX105 permit for 22B. You still have to travel to, or live in, a 22B village to get the permit.
Quotas are up in 22d-kuzitrin, 22d remainder, and 22b west. Likely these hunt areas will remain open till the end or close to the end of the Mar. 15 closing date.
You are now allowed 2 permits per calendar year. With permits now available online, you could drop into Nome to hunt, and if not satisfied, move onto another area, such as 22e.

    Bad news:
The only bad news is the quota in 22c, which went from 34 to 20. Likely the 22c area will close in a month to 6 weeks. However, the hunt is very weather and animal location dependant. I suspect locals will be a little more anxious to fill their tags quickly.
The quota also went down in 22e, but that is not actually bad news as that sub unit never harvests it's full reg. hunt quota.

Lodging and equipment rental is available in both Nome and Shishmaref. There is also a quide service in Shish.

Keep an eye on the weather and hope for decent snow.

One other bit of good news regarding a unit 22 Ox hunt starting Jan 1.
Unit 22d-kuzitrin also has a Jan 1-31 Moose season. A hunter can get the RX-099 Ox permit on line, and a RM849 Moose permit at the ADF&G office in Nome and hunt for 2 species.
Success results were very good for moose in this area last winter. Not a big antler hunt tho. Get younger animals (bag limit is one ANTLERED bull) and meat will likely be good.
Back haul rate on Everett's is 25.00 per hundred pounds. So opportunity exists to take home a large amount of meat (Ox and Moose) at a reasonable price.

Plenty of bears, tho they aren't out when most of the Ox and winter Moose is open.
