I am not sure on setting your dvr but yes you can do all that with a standard mobile web phone.

Just how do you set your dvr with your iPhone? I am interested.

I'm not going to debate the merits of iPhone apps here. Mike asked a question, and I answered it. If I could go back and delete my post, I would. But I'm sure there are others like me that just don't see the need to buy an app to replace FREE functionality built in to these smart phones, and I thought that Mike would like to have the comment instead of just a poll response.

As for the DVR, I use a FREE DirecTv app. But you can also just do it at the DirecTv website. You wanna debate what channel packages I should be paying for now? Sheesh.

Ah I see. I just have plain old gci cable with the dvr box. I can't afford that fancy stuff, I spend all my extra money on apps.

Speaking of free apps. Did you know tapatalk is free if you just want to view threads? Only need the paid version to post.

One quick question... Do the ads still show up on TapaTalk? Or would we have to pay $3 and still have to wait for ads to load?

I never tried the free version but with the $3 Android app I have never seen any ads.

I have the pay version for the Iphone and I have no ads. It really is much better than using the browser.

I havent the first clue what tapatalk is, means, or does. I am a technology imbecile for the most part.

That being said, my wife has an iphone and I like to check in on the forum from it on occasion (no internet access at home).

Before the current forum upgrade, I had no problems logging on and reading forums from her iphone. Now a window pops up that says something about "do you want to learn about tapatalk?" and has buttons for either OK or Cancel. No matter which you hit, it wont load the forum, so I cant check AOD from the iphone.....

So I guess my vote is.....NO TAPATALK...at least until I figure out what the heck it is....

Tapatalk is an application that runs on the iphone. They have a free version, I would recommend that you try it. On the iphone go to the apps icon and search for tapatalk, download it. Add AOD and surf away. It is an application that loads the forum without all the graphics that slow down browsers.

My phone is always smarter than I am. And by the time I catch up with one, I upgrade and once again the phone is smarter than I. I give Up!
I'm leaving my phone at home whenever I can now days, and I don't feel so darn dumb.

Well I can't resist: I'm using Tapatalk right now so I can't view or participate in the poll !

That being said I like it. I was already using it for another forum and so was glad when the AOF went live.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming-----WOW-----what a ride!

I get annoyed at having to purchase apps that (I feel) aren't needed. I am sure it might be great for some, but I can access this full site on my IPhone for free on the web. Since I am only on a couple of forums, I don't see the need. However if I were on many forums, the purchase might be worthwhile for me.

Why be annoyed? Having both is the best option out there. If the basic free functionality fits your needs then drive on. If it doesn't then it sure is nice to be able to purchase an upgrade. I have a work truck that is bare bones on amenities but has all the goodies under the hood and in the chassis. I don't need leather or captains chairs etc but I'm not "annoyed" with ford for offering the option to those who want it.

Tapatalk makes it easier to load pictures, eliminates the advertisements, streamlines forum access, improves the "what's new" list vs the standard website, adds a "participated" tag that let's you easily keep track of threads you are involved in. It also can be linked to your phone for push messages so you get notified when you get a pm. From a Moderator standpoint it also improves the usability of the tools we need to keep things running smoothly.
