It's been weeks since we had yet another "Which handgun/caliber/rifle/slingshot/spear/potato gun do you prefer for bears" thread....

(Oh, and where can I take a peek at the '.545 Casull'?)

I dunno, I once shot into a herd of bear tracks with my .88 magnum so I could judge for myself the results.....The dern things didn't even flinch....I think it is due to the curvature of the track, anything less than field artillery just bounces off.....

    Default Please, No!

Not another what-is-your-favorite thread! No offense Blackhawk .44 (I thus assume the 44 is your fave <grin>. FYI I carry a blackhawk in .41 mag) but these things do get old.

    Default .500

bummed the .500 S&W want one of the choices. I love mine (4"in barrel) and carry it all the time. Plenty of bear medicine... Also, Like I remind the wife when she complains about the cost of shells, it doubles as the ultimate home defense round. It makes so much noise that if it ever goes off in the house even the people that are supposed to be there are gonna to standing outside.

I wonder if these threads haven't probably inspired a few revolver/pistol sales... and holsters... and ammo...

Just based on the comments, and some performance data, I once started looking at .480 Rugers after reading such a thread...and I don't really need that revolver... yet. Fred Meyer keeps putting another one out there though and I keep reading what a fine set of performance numbers that would be to have on hand...

Out of all the people I know, I only know of two people who have actually had to use their sidearm. Not sure what the one caliber was, the other was a 44mag with 350gr slugs on a lil ole 7 and a half foot Griz. I carry mine but hopefully I never have to use it on a bear suprising me, I would rather kill the bear with by bow.

Same here man. This thread lost all credibility leaving that one out.
The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

Got to agree, if you're going to carry a pistol for bear defense, it might as well be the right one.
