I'd call that natural selection in action. Classic.

    Default Natural Selection...

would entail that their genes wouldn't be passed on from acts of stupidity...they made it to shore, smart enough to do that...next would require building a fire, & then finding shelter & water, then food...

    Default Natural Selection

Natural selection hasn't failed us we have failed it. We go out of our way to protect the logically challenged and every generation they have less common sense.

    Default Ahh, come on guys...

... they did something dumb, and it almost cost their lives. I have taken dumb risks myself, and I bet you have as well. They're alive and hopefully others learned. We'll see.

But we're just makin fun, just like we were made fun of when we did stupid things.

Although........ Even in my most impaired or pressured moments would I have thought getting into a 14 foot boat with 5 other people in an ice cold lake would have been a good thing..........nah, I take it back, they escaped, and we're dumbed down.

sheesh, I don't think I'd put more than three in my 16' boat (supposedly rated for 5 people).

At least nobody died and all likely learned a good lesson.

I can see Darwin himself, standing on top of the lifeguard tower:

"HEY, YOU! OUT OF THE GENE POOL!!!"

In the IT world, we'd call this an error code ID 10T.

I would expect my 17.5 wooldridge AK to run ok w/ 6 in a lake like that. Obviously have to watch the weather but I would expect to be just fine as long as I didn't put it in a position to take a wave over the transom.

I don't think a lot of people realize how Kenai and Skilak lakes can turn scary real fast. The wind picks up and you get these nasty short-stacked waves that can be downright scary in a small boat.

define "camping gear". enough for 5 adults probably weighs enough to equal one person. 5 people plus gear maybe 10-12" of freeboard hmmmmm even a non-boater should think twice. Glad all made it out, hopefully lesson learned. And NO the life jacket goes on YOU not under your butt!!!
