Thumbs up 1886 w/ Burris Fastfire ll

Doug Turnbull is offering a skookum mount to mate the Burris FastFire ll red dot sight with Winchester '86s and 71s.

My USRAC/Miroku '86 previously worn a Williams Fool Proof, which was great, but the FastFire setup is better and much faster, at least for my tired eyes.

Just put one on my Marlin and it works fine. I left the iron sights on so I can use them for long range and the Fastfire II for close work in the alders. Jim

When I first read your title, I thought "Ah geeez, putting a jet engine on a crop duster." Shows that I didn't even know what a Fastfire II was. Yeah, I'm ignerant about lots of other stuff too.

But looking at the photo, I see it's really trim, and my old eyes are starting to need more than a peep. Thanks!

I'm assuming it uses the same mounting holes as the Williams FP, etc. Right?

    Default FastFire....

    Brown Bear...
The mount uses the same holes as the FoolProof. Very simple to install. The red dot, covering 4 minutes, isn't too large to use out to 200 yards, I think. Should be great for the 45/70's useful range.

Been considering a FF2 for my 1895, but thought they would be to obtrusive (snagging etc). Not yet seen one in the flesh, but they look really trim.

    Default FastFire....

Burris makes a FastFire mount for the Marlin lever rifles, so it must be a breeze to install.

The FF sure mounts low on that pistol. Neat.

I've always enjoyed shooting my '86, but the FF has up'ed the fun factor. I've been scattering balloons - about 7" diameter - at my "range" and popping them as quick as I can lever another round into the chamber. Lots of fun. Should be good for river bottom moose hunting out to as much as 200 yards, IMHO.

For those of you who may be interested, check out Doug Turnbull's web site for some world class lever gun porn. I'm into hunting rifles, not show pieces, but .... wow.
