Default Did my first float! ever...

floated clear creek on friday with my wife, put in above the powerlines.
i've got a 9.5 self bailer with a rowing frame...
first off the float was fun, alot of work. not much water. any bigger of a raft and i'd have been screwed, we drug bottom and bounced alot, alot of rocks outa the water and the little drops and rapids were rough going, had to navigate thru them rather than just going over them. another foot of water woulda been great!
overall had fun, learned to have some gloves next time. my hands are a little tender today.
took us a little over 7 hours to get to talkeetna.
clear creek mouth is a mess with people and tents, porta potties...you name it.

well i will be using this raft to float out from a couple locations to help keep me from getting weathered in and to offer some new and bonus experiences for clients. but no..i don't plan on doing float hunts.
its like road hunting...to me, but better..lol
just trying to mix it up a little is all..

    Wink hugh rafting problem...

    Watch out Jake/brwnbr.
While rafting just yesterday, Saturday, an AOD forum pal told me I'm a guide with a hugh rafting problem.
    You could be next!

And, oh, you need a bigger boat.

    Default Congratulations!

Sounds like you enjoyed it - even the work is fun outdoors sometimes.

Ya know a fly rod or 2 won't take up much room in that raft...

    Best wishes.

lol ya the fly rod fit pretty good actually...its got a spot already.
dennis, man a raft any bigger wouldn't have made the float, water levels are low enough even my 9.5 was tight..no way i'd want something bigger for that creek anyway..now if i was on a bigger river..ya.

Default how did you get in?

Can I ask? did you use scott with heli-dunn? If so how did it go. I've sent him several e-mails but get nothing back. In his defense, my old computer blew up and now I got this windows 7 thing. I have had my share of weeding my way thru it. Old dog hates new trick.
I'm not a rafter but after the flood of 06 and the one week rain in august of 07 that little creek got pretty mean looking. Might have been a blessing it was slow and easy. I'm sure its no big deal to those of you with experience but for a novice maybe otherwise.

    Default Way Cool Jake

Glad you got ut and about! Your Hooked! Your Hooked! Your Hooked! Maybe not yet but it will build over time! Just look at Mike first it seemed like a good idea! AND NOW! Wading in deeper and deeper waters :-)

On a real note I am glad you and your wife had a decent time and you enjoyed your trip. I think you will find an entire world is now opened to you. Little Road Hunting never hurt anyone from the water.

    Stay safe!
