Large Mouth Sculpin - aka Irish Lord.

Plenty of other local names - none of which are flattering.

    Trust me - they don't taste like Cabezon . . .

    Yup. That's it.

We call them Uglies. And the biggest we call Double Uglies.

Too often we're fishing with wives, daughters or mothers-in-law and we can't use their real name.

That is what I call a "5 dollar fish" if your in my boat. For every one you catch, 5 bucks goes in the pot. Biggest fish of the year out of my boat, collects the pot at the end of the season. My wife started the rule.

That is actually a Great sculpin. Irish loards have a stripe of ruff scales running down thier body. some greats can have those orange marks and some don't. I will put up a pic of both in a minute.

These are Irish lords, notice the scales along the back.
Can't find a qwick pic of a Great but the one you got is pretty good.

Very cool looking fish. I think I'm going to take Chico's idea and use if for the beer fund.

Its a Great Sculpin or something closely related like a Frog or Plain. I'd go with Great Sculpin though.

P.S. they release easy- no swim bladder.

Based on the front end orifice I am convinced that it is the female version of the species.
