    Default Juneau Bear Hunting!

Anyone know of any good places in Juneau that you can access by either hiking in or driving to for Spring blackies? I have a few ideas - but curious to see what others say!

there arn't any good places off the road really. mostly cause you need to be a half mile from the road to shoot anything. for bears you really need a boat and go south to taku and you can get bears there.

I'm sticking with everywhere, well everywhere outside of the hashed lines on this map http://uashome.alaska.edu/~jsppm2/project.jpg I'd look for bears as high in the mountains as you can find them, the more berries they eat, the better they taste for sure.

thats really good site. pat but as yousee all the coast line is closed to hunting so when the bears come down you can't hunt them. sure you can go up in the mountains and see them (15 yds while grouse hunting with just a .22 yikes) but then there's all the hiking and then you have to carry the bear a long ways out at that is so much work but i guess its worth a shot. I would try up dan moler (saw a couple bears there) and you could bring a snow machine. if you really want to hunt of the road system

thanks I made that site! And carrying your game out of the woods is a part of the game, if I wanted it to be easy I'd go to the store plus the only black bear I will shoot will be far far away from salmon streams, I want some of that blue meat from berrys.

If you don't have a boat and want to hunt from the road system in Juneau you just have to put in your time stomping around. As the snow melts the sub alpine is a good place to look. It is some work though when you shoot one getting it back. Spring time bears taste good anywhere you can find them before the salmon start showing up. There are trails up many of the ridges which can get you up high a lot faster then busting brush and a lot easier getting the bear back one you get him back to the trail. Good luck.

True which I suppose is why they make you eat spring bear and not fall bear (stupid rule you should eat what you kill)
