I caught two 20 pound halibut last year off Flat Island with one 12/0 J Gamakatsu Hook baited with a chunk of Octopus. I thought I had a monster on the line. Obviously the first Halibut took the bait but had the bait in the opening in his mouth and the other must have attacked it pushing the hook all the way through because the first halibut was sliding up and down the leader being stopped by the weight on a swivel and ther other had the hook down its throat. My buddy whom had a charter service many years ago out of Homer was with me along with his son and he said out of all his years of fishing, he had never seen that happen.

My first halibut trip ever, back in 2002, we fished metal jigs for rockfish after our halibut limits out of Seward. My wife pulled in two black rockfish on the single-hook jig. The first had hit it, the jig went in its mouth and out its gill, and the second one then hit it and got hooked. Made for a very cool pic...

The best is catching a small rockfish (black bass for me) then leaving it down there for a nice big Lingcod to chomp!!

Default Halibut and skate on one herring

My 9 year old, nick-named "the skate-ster" due to is amazing ability to hook skates that I have to haul in, , hooked a halibut and "lassood" a big skate in the tail at the same time. What a joy to bring in that was. Here is the skate-ster and his mom on that trip:

Did it again last time home. Wife just sent me the pics. I caught a pesky Arrowtooth Flounder and Pacific Grey Cod on the same J hook at the same time off Rugged Island. Attachment 36571

Looks like a downrigger mounted on the stern. Confused me for a second too.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.
