Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone was familiar with the Fidalgo Bay property that is coming up for auction this Monday in Fairbanks.
I was pretty interested in finding what APPEARS to be great recreational land available for terms I can muster. (I have no credit history and little interest in obtaining one, so these kinds of non-qualifying deals are appealing, obviously.)
I just got off the phone with a water taxi operator out of Valdez who said there was an auction in previous years where he took several people out and had to bring crying wives back. SUPER steep terrain, gravel piles passed off as building sites, etc.
Now, I don't know what kind of wives these were. I'm familiar with PWS and know what the terrain can be like, but I also know how to read a map and how to avoid bidding on lots that show steep/unbuildable terrain. I understand that platted neighborhoods with roads drawn in in no way implies that there are currently actual roads there, nor may there ever be. I hope that a lot of the people that were disappointed did not understand these things...but I want to try to cover my butt as well as possible without dropping more than the downpayment to go check it out.
Here's the website for the auction: http://www.grubstakeauction.com/PWS2010-8.htm
What do you think?
